My mother had to battle for over a year to be tested.  Her GP told her she was a timewaster and hypochondriac time after time until eventually her GP weakened and she actually got blood tests.  (I think just to shut her up) 

Noone was more shocked than her GP who quickly did an about turn and actually got her biopsy almost immediately.
