| my daughter was diagnosed approx 4 years ago when her weight dropped to 5st.8lbs, she now weighs between 6st.4lbs and can go to just under 7st. she sees her consultant once a year, he tells her she will put on weight eventually but cant say when, as you can understand we do not feel happy with this, is there anything else we can do. she does follow her gluten free diet at all times, she is 21years old. she also takes longer to get over any infection she may pick up, is this normal with coeliac disease. thankyou jean |

| | It isn't unusual. A clever specialist dietician may be able to identify sources of gluten your daughter is still unwittingly exposed to. Biopsies can ascertain whether her intestine remains damaged or not. If not, a high calorie diet, weight-resistant exercises should help her gain weight. |

| | thankyou for your reply. my daughter had another endiscope several months ago, and things were looking normal again. she refuses to have another one, as her throat was scratched and didnt stop bleeding for several days after. can you recommend a high calorie book for coeliacs, as the books I can see only cater for people with normal diets. |
